CANTON, OH – A 58-year-old Canton woman died when her clothing caught fire while she was inside her home Saturday.

Firefighters were called to a home on Plain Avenue NE at around 2 p.m. for a report of a small fire inside the two-story home. When they arrived, the fire was out, but they discovered that it was Maxine Richardson’s clothing that had caught fire. Richardson was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials tell Fox 8 that Richardson was using oxygen for a medical condition, and they are looking into that.
