CLEVELAND – St. John Cathedral was one of many churches that hosted Ash Wednesday services today.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer and fasting.

The ashes are to serve as a reminder of mortality.

Lent ends with Holy Thursday on March 24, the Thursday before Easter.
