AVON LAKE, Ohio– Two Avon Lake men are facing charges after several deer were found dead in the city limits.

Over the past few months, residents have called police to report dead deer with arrow wounds, the Avon Lake Police Department said. They were not part of the city’s culling program.

When officers found another dead deer on Jan. 2 at the intersection Redwood Boulevard and Woodstock Drive, they were able to get a vehicle description.

Adam Petrella, 26, and Andrew Smith, 25, are charged with hunting violations and animal cruelty. Smith is also charged with shooting a bow in the city limits.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife is also seeking fines and sanctions.
