Security guard dragged by shoplifting suspects on Cleveland’s east side:
A security guard was dragged by shoplifting suspects at a grocery story on Cleveland's east side Thursday morning. It happened at about 10 a.m. at the Dave's Supermarket at East 40th Street and Quincy Avenue. Cleveland police said the Grand River police officer was working security at the store and was helping a woman who was locked out of her car, when the suspects-- accused of stealing meat-- came out. The security guard tried to stop them as they drove away. He was dragged by the van and fired four shots; no one was hit. The officer was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.
Two Ohio EPA staffers on leave over lead in village's water:
The water in Sebring appears to be getting better, but there is still fallout. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has put two employees from its field office that covers Sebring on administrative leave pending the results of an ongoing investigation, agency spokeswoman Heidi Griesmer said Thursday. The pair have been on leave since the start of last week, though Griesmer did not detail their positions or what they might have done wrong. A day earlier, her agency announced that tests of all 54 water samples (from 53 homes) came back showing "lead levels ... below the federal allowable limit."
Police and emergency workers rescued a man who was trapped in his wrecked vehicle for several hours. Police tell Fox 8 the crash happened around 2 a.m., when the driver of the vehicle drove off state Route 10 and into a wooded area. He told authorities he wasn't able to get out of the car. He was finally found once a truck driver spotted him and told officials.
Akron suspect crashes into truck carrying gas cans; driver burned:
A man was seriously injured when he was burned after a suspect took off from police and crashed his car. The suspect drove off after a domestic dispute and police chased after him, but called off the chase when it reached speeds of 90 miles per hour. The suspect crashed into a truck, which was carrying cans of gas. The cans exploded and engulfed the vehicle in flames. The truck driver was burned on his hands and back.
