Pizza delivery driver shot twice during Akron robbery

AKRON, Ohio-- A Papa John's delivery man was shot during a robbery in Akron Monday night.

It happened just after 10 p.m. on Crane Walk, which is located off of Cole Avenue.

Akron police said the 59-year-old victim delivered a pizza and was confronted by a man with a gun. The suspect shot the driver twice, then got away with cash.

The man was able to notify police that he had been shot, calling 9-1-1 as he lie on the ground of an apartment community parking lot.

"I've just been shot. I was delivering pizza," he told dispatchers. "A fellow tried to rob me and then they shot me twice." He told dispatchers that he had been shot once in the back and another time in the stomach by a man dressed in a hoodie that he had pulled over his head.

He's expected to recover from his injuries.
