On the issues:

Economy: While governor, he cut state income taxes by 20 percent and cut state spending. He favors cutting the government workforce by ending some entitlements.

Education: He wants to put an end to the Common Core.

Environment: Pataki has a history of working to curb greenhouse gases, but does not support federal regulations on emissions.

Gun control/rights: Pataki bucks the trend of pro-gun rights among Republicans. He signed strict gun-control laws while governor of New York.

Health care: He would repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Immigration: The former New York governor says he supports a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

National security: If elected president, Pataki wants to send in ground troops to defeat ISIS. “Destroy their training centers, destroy their recruitment centers, destroy the area where they are looking to plan to attack us here,” Pataki told CNN.

Social issues: He believes individual states should decide on the definition of marriage and signed a gay rights law as governor. He’s previously said Republicans should not focus on gay marriage.
