Celine Dion’s husband has passed away after a long battle with cancer

LAS VEGAS – Celine Dion’s husband, René Angélil, has passed away after a long battle with throat cancer Thursday morning.

Her publicist released the following statement on her Facebook page just a short time ago:

“Rene Angélil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer,” the rep said in a statement. “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time.”

Back in October 2014, Dion, 47, canceled several of her Las Vegas shows due to her husband’s declining health.

Celine and Angelil married back in 1994 and recently celebrated their 21st anniversary back in December. Angelil has been Dion’s manager for more than 30 years.

According to ABC News, he stepped down from his managing role in 2014 after his throat cancer returned. He first battled cancer in the late 1990s.

The couple has three children together, René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. He also has two older children from a previous relationship.
