CLEVELAND – A Cleveland police officer has resigned from his job after being convicted of a number of charges in connection with a relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

First District Officer Elvin Sanchez was working part-time as a security officer at West Park Academy when he began a relationship with a 14-year-old female student. Officials say he touched her inappropriately and also exchanged illicit text messages that were sexual in nature. He was indicted and suspended from his job in October of 2015.

Sanchez was convicted on one count of gross sexual imposition, one count of importuning, two counts of sexual imposition and one count of possessing criminal tools. He resigned immediately after the convictions.
