MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Two people are dead after an early morning crash in Erie County and alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that James Metz, 26, of Fremont was driving a minivan west on Route 6 near Sandusky shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. He traveled left of center and hit a Nickles Bakery truck driven by Christopher Harrison, 50, of Bettsville.

Both of the vehicles came to a stop after the collision, but neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the police, alcohol and speed on the part of Metz and his vehicle appear to be a factor in the accident.
