CLEVELAND, Ohio — Santa came early for 500 families of inner-city children who may not have had many Christmas gifts this year.

Zion Hill Baptist Church and Morningstar Grand Chapter O.E.S. Monday night provided gifts and a huge holiday party.

Zion Hill pastor Jimmy Gates pointed out that the children come from neighborhoods on Cleveland’s east side where the youngest have been shot to death.

A 5-month-old baby died after getting shot while riding in a car. And a 3-year-old died after getting hit in a drive-by shooting.

The Mount Pleasant Ministerial Alliance has led a campaign for churches in that part of town to do more outreach.

They are hoping to touch more lives and help bring an end to all of the violence.
