LAS VEGAS – The 2015 Miss Universe pageant was held in Las Vegas on Sunday night, hosted by Steve Harvey.
After announcing that Miss U.S.A. had won 2nd runner-up, Harvey announced that Miss Colombia had won Miss Universe 2015. That would have made Miss Philippines the 1st runner-up.
After crowning Miss Colombia, Harvey announced that he had made a mistake.
Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, had actually won; he read the card incorrectly. Miss Philippines then walked to center stage to accept her crown.
Right after the pageant, Harvey tweeted an apology, but that was quickly deleted. Here is what the original tweet said:
“I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia. This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”
A short time later, he tweeted again:
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible. Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.”
