AVON, Ohio– An Avon man and his wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide.

Just after 5 a.m. Thursday, an Avon Lake woman reported to police that her father called, and said he shot her mother and planned to kill himself, according to police.

Officers arrived at the elderly couple’s house on Langford Lane and tried to contact the residents. When no one answered, they evacuated nearby residents and brought in the Lorain County SWAT team.

Inside the house, they found the man and woman in bed together with apparent gunshot wounds, Avon police said.

During their investigation, police learned the woman was ill and was going to be placed in a nursing home this week. Their daughter told police her father was depressed over his wife’s condition.

The names are not being released. The man was 77 years old and his wife was 73.
