MANCHESTER, UK – When 7-year-old Christian Hickey wrote out his letter to Santa this year, he included a lot of requests that any boy his age might have: a remote-controlled helicopter, walkie talkies, FIFA 16.
But the first item on the list is one you wouldn’t expect to find: “help the police catch the people who hurt me.”
Christian and his mother were shot on the doorstep of their home in Salford, England after answering the door to two men. Christian was shot in his left leg, his mother twice in her legs. After a number of surgeries, the two are now at home starting their long roads to recovery.
The police department has chimed in on Christian’s request.
Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson of the Greater Manchester Police Serious Crime Division had this to say on the department’s Facebook page: “It is heart wrenching to know that a little boy who should be writing a list filled with exciting gifts, has got this at the top of his Christmas list. What happened to Christian will stay with him for the rest of his life but what we can do is try to make this up to him by finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.”
The police are continuing to look for suspects and have appealed to the public for help.
