Mike Pettine says Browns evaluating situation after Johnny Manziel party video surfaces
BEREA, Ohio– Cleveland Browns head coach expressed frustration when asked about a video of Johnny Manziel that surfaced on Monday.
TMZ Sports released the video, which it said shows the quarterback at a nightclub Friday night. Manziel is singing and holding a bottle of champagne. He responded at a Cleveland Food Bank event by saying he is focused on football.
Last week, Pettine named Manziel the starting quarterback over Josh McCown for the remainder of the season. On Tuesday, Pettine said he’s reconsidering his choice and would not guarantee the second-year QB would play in Monday night’s game against Baltimore.
Pettine said he spoke to owner Jimmy Haslam and general manager Ray Farmer about Manziel’s conduct. Pettine said when “it’s a repeat pattern of behavior, it’s a concern.”
Pettine said the team expects all players to conduct themselves appropriately off of the field.
The head coach also said McCown is healthy and ready to play.
The NFL recently announced there was not enough evidence to take disciplinary action against Manziel for a roadside incident with his girlfriend.
On Oct. 12, officers found Manziel and his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, on the side on Interstate 90 near the Nagel Road ramp. According to the police report, the couple had been arguing and Crowley threw Manziel’s wallet out the car window so he pulled over. The quarterback told police Crowley tried to get out of the car and he pulled her back in. The report said the officer noticed a small cut on Crowley’s arm.
