NEW YORK – The attacks on Paris hit emotionally close to home for Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera, whose daughter was inside the soccer stadium during the explosions.

Rivera nearly broke down in tears on Friday night as he spoke with  Shepherd Smith live on the air during coverage of the attacks.

“It’s very upsetting,” he said. “It’s a lot easier to report these things and to experience them myself than if it is your child.”

Rivera said his daughter, Simone, 21, who is currently studying abroad in Paris, heard three explosions and managed to escape amid the panic and chaos.

Rivera said that he had plans to  visit Simone during Thanksgiving.
