CINCINNATI — Lauren Hill’s mother and her coach got teary when they walked into the arena where she made her first basket. It’ll be an emotional weekend for them and the Mount St. Joseph’s basketball team.

It’s been little more than a year since Hill made two layups during a game at Xavier’s Cintas Center, reaching her goal of playing college basketball despite a fatal brain tumor. She died in April.

She’s being honored with a game at Xavier on Saturday between Mount St. Joseph and Hiram College, the same Division III schools that played last year. More than 3,000 tickets were sold.

The game is part of a push to raise more than $2.2 million for cancer research.
