Early morning fire claims life of Uniontown woman

UNIONTOWN, OH – One woman is dead after her Uniontown home caught fire early Saturday morning.

The call came in to the Uniontown Fire Department shortly before 3 a.m. Crews arrived at the Cleveland Avenue residence within three minutes to find smoke coming out of the home.  They were able to get the fire under control within half an hour, but not before one of the two female residents lost her life. The other woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Two pets, a dog and a cat, also died in the fire.

One Uniontown police department member was also treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate isn’t known at this time, but remains under investigation. The name of the deceased has not been released until family members are notified.
