RITTMAN - An 8-year-old girl was playing in front of a church near her home when a man allegedly tried to kidnap her, according to the Wayne County Sheriffs Department Captain Doug Hunter.

The church is located on Portage Street in Rittman.

Police say 45-year-old Shannon Rowe approached her and asked her to leave with him, saying "come with me little girl."

Her brother was outside in front of their home across from the church and witnessed the incident. He then yelled at the man to go away and leave her alone.

Rowe then fled the area, but the 13-year-old boy chased after him and the Sheriff's Department caught him shortly after.

He was arrested and charged with first degree misdemeanor criminal child enticement and menacing and has since been released after posting bail.
