Veterans Day 2015It’s a time to remember those who have fought for our country: Veterans Day.

This year, Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

There is a long list growing of parades, ceremonies and other events set in communities all over Northeast Ohio.

**Make sure to check the date on each event; events are being planned in the weeks before, during and after Veterans Day.

AKRON
— Saturday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Akron Summit County Library, High Street, Akron. Civil War flag ceremony will include a one-day showing of a flag used during the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry’s march out of Northeast Ohio to the Civil War. Cliff Eckle, curator of special collections at the Ohio History Connection, and John Gurnish, local Civil War historian and author, will speak at 1 p.m.

AURORA
— Wednesday,  Nov. 11, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Valley Christian Academy gymnasium. Fifth grade veterans program. Includes speaker Michael Peters.

AVON LAKE
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 8 a.m., Learwood Middle School, 340 Lear Road. Students will serve breakfast to more than 100 veterans starting at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria. Then a program to honor veterans will take place in the auditorium, followed by entertainment.

BEACHWOOD
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m. Menorah Park Auditorium, 27100 Cedar Road, Beachwood. Veterans Day Ceremony, including veterans’ stories, introduction of Menorah Park’s new rabbi and speaker Rocky Bleier, a Vietnam vet and former starting running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Will also be a color guard, rifle salute and taps.

CLEVELAND

— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 9:30 a.m. Veterans Day Parade. The parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. in front of City Hall, 601 Lakeside Ave.
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m., City Hall Rotunda, 601 Lakeside Ave. A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held and include a reception, presentation of awards and a keynote speaker. Open to the public.

FAIRVIEW PARK
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 11:30 a.m., Fairview Park Senior Center. Veterans Day Hero Celebration. Call the senior center at 440-356-4436 to register if you are a veteran and would like to attend. A luncheon is included.

GREEN
— Wednesday, Nov. 11., 10:45 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road. The city of Green’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Queen of Heaven’s Parish Life Center.

MASSILLON
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 10:45 a.m., Perry High School, 3737 13th St. S.W., Massillon. Perry High School Veterans Day Ceremony. The ceremony is being hosted by the Panther Battalion Corps of Cadets.

MEDINA
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m., St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. 2015 Veterans Day Concert. Concert and parking are free to the public. Nonperishable food items will be collected to support the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

PARMA
–Tuesday, Nov. 10, 10:30 a.m., Smallwood Activities Center. Veterans pinning ceremony. More than two dozen veterans who are members of the center will be honored and pinned.
–Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m., 6765 State Road, Parma. Mount Alverna Village will honor 32 veterans in the village chapel. Representatives from Seven Hills VWF Post 7609 will speak and present veterans with flags.

RAVENNA
–Wednesday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m., Southeast High School, 8423 Tallmadge Road, Ravenna. Sixth Southeast High School Veterans Day Program.

PEPPER PIKE
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 8 a.m., Ballard Brady Middle School cafeteria, 32000 Chagrin Blvd., Pepper Pike. Veterans Day Recognition Breakfast.

WINDHAM
— Wednesday, Nov. 11, 8:15 a.m., Windham Junior/Senior High School, 9530 Bauer Ave., Windham. Veterans Day Assembly. Opening remarks will begin at 8:15 a.m. followed by the presentation of the colors of the U.S. Coast Guard and several salutes to fallen soldiers and veterans. There will also be a symbolic placing of the wreath ceremony.
