AKRON, Ohio-- Dozens of people who say they paid thousands to a man who was supposed to plan their special day now will be waiting a little longer to find out if they will be reimbursed.

Cory Friedman, a  31-year-old wedding planner, stood in front of a Summit County judge Monday afternoon asking to have his guilty plea to a charge of grand theft withdrawn and instead go to trial.

Court officials explained Friedman had thought the plea deal he entered into would guarantee probation but found out Monday that wasn't the case.

So Friedman changed his plea back to not guilty and the case will now go to trial in February.

The prosecutor told the judge there are a total of 39 customers Friedman is accused of scamming for a total of $53,000.

Friedman and his attorney would not answer any questions about the case.

Friedman owned Simply Elegant Weddings in Richfield. It closed in April.
