CLEVELAND– Are the Cleveland Browns ready to play “Let’s Make A Deal” less than 24-hours until the NFL trade deadline?
Sunday morning, hours before the Browns were set to kick-off against the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland was front and center of the trade talk rumors.
“Worrying doesn’t really help you. It just wastes energy,” said Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas. “Obviously, we are not where we want to be. Two-6 is not a good record. We have to find a way to find some answers to win these games, but I think it`s important to control the things that you can control.”
Thomas was one of the names circulating in the trade rumors. He was selected by the Browns third overall in 2007.
“I remember three or four years ago there was rumors that I would get traded so it`s just part of the business. It`s part of being on a team that is 2-6 right now at the trade deadline,” Thomas said.
Thomas’ counterpart on the offensive line, Alex Mack, is headed for free-agency following the season. Mack, who was included in the recent rumor, intends on staying in Cleveland for the rest of the season.
“I absolutely want to help this team win,” Mack said following Sunday’s game.
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Barkevious Mingo, who has seen his playing time diminish, is also reportedly on the trading block. As is linebacker Paul Kruger, who is not surprised his name is being floated out there in trade rumors.
“Not necessarily, based on the way things have been playing out a little bit. But at the same time, we are focused on winning games. That is something that has not been discussed with me,” Kruger said.
The trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. Head coach Mike Pettine said during his conference call with the media on Monday that he would address the trade rumors surrounding his team during a scheduled meeting.
