DOVER, Ohio-- A popular family event has suffered a setback after a fire destroyed 12 of the Tuscarawas County Soap Derby cars and other equipment last week at the Wayne Garage Door facility in Dover.

Damage to the building is estimated to be around a million dollars. The building was insured, but unfortunately the cars were not.

Organizers for the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby say next year's event is the 80th anniversary and is scheduled to take place in June and they plan for the race to go on with the public's help.

They are welcoming donations to help replace the soap box derby cars. Donations can be made at all First Federal Community Bank locations with checks payable to Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby. The money will help replace what was lost in the blaze.

Organizers are also asking anyone who previously took part in the Soap Box Derby who has a car they could donate, please do so. To make a donation, please call Tim Hiller at (330) 407-7580.
