Arrest warrant issued in hit-and-run that killed 17-year-old in Lorain

LORAIN, Ohio-- Police say an arrest warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Damion Cheers. Police say they believe he's the person who hit a teenager with his vehicle and left the scene of the accident.

17-year-old Jayvian R. Johnson was killed after he was struck by a vehicle around 9 p.m. last Monday night in the 300 block of West 23rd Street.

Anyone with information about Cheers' location should contact Lorain police at 440-204-2100.

Johnson was taken to the hospital, where he passed away Tuesday morning.

Witnesses described the vehicle involved in the incident as silver. A silver, 2008 four-door Dodge Avenger was impounded by police the following day.

Jayvian's family says he was set to graduate from high school in January and had just enlisted Monday to join the Army.
