AKRON, Ohio -- A man was arrested, and two suspects are on the loose after gunfire erupted outside a home with three young children inside.
According to police reports, it happened at around 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Robert Street.
Recardo Travis, 26, and an 18-year-old male, both from Akron, said they stopped to visit the residents at the Robert Street home. While they were knocking on the front door, they said two men came from the side yard and fired multiple rounds at them.
The 18-year-old was struck in the arms, legs and buttocks. He was taken to Akron General Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition. Travis was not struck.
The female resident inside the home, however, had just opened the front door and was struck in the face during the ordeal. She was taken to Akron City Hospital where she was in stable condition.
Travis fired two shots back at the suspects. They fled on foot.
The female had three children, ages 4, 7 and 9, inside the house at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt and were placed into the custody of Summit County Children's Services.
Authorities conducted a search warrant at the Robert Street home and found a handgun, an assault rifle and marijuana packaged for sale.
Two officers on an unrelated domestic call in the area and were nearly struck by stray bullets. A home in the neighborhood was hit with bullets, police say.
The suspects are two black males wearing all dark clothing.
Travis was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, two counts of tampering with evidence, trafficking in marijuana and discharging a firearm into habitation.
