Eight vehicles involved in construction zone crash

ELYRIA TWP., Ohio — Eight vehicles were involved in a crash in Elyria Township Monday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened at just before 3:30 p.m. on state Route 2 westbound near the Middle Ridge Road exit. The area is under construction, and traffic was reduced to two single lanes.

Involved was a white 2011 GMC Sierra carrying two people; a black 2006 Kia Sorrento carrying two people; a black 2005 Toyota Sequoia carrying five people; a silver 2008 Ford F150 carrying one person; a maroon 2002 Ford F250 carrying one person; a silver 2010 Chevrolet Equinox carrying one person; a gray 2011 Kia Optima carrying two people; and a silver 2003 Honda Civic carrying two people.

No serious injuries were reported.

Police say the exact chain of events is still under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not a suspected factor in the crash. Speed is a suspected factor.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police remind drivers to slow down through all construction zones and be mindful of stopped traffic.
