Michael J. Brennan, 31, held up the Papa John's on Pearl Road on Oct. 15 and got away with $89, police said.

Officers chased him on Interstate 480, where he crashed near State Road. Parma Heights police said Brennan got out of his pickup truck with a weapon. That's when officers shot and killed him.

According to Parma Heights police, Brennan was armed with an all-black model 1911 BB gun. There was no orange tip.

"The employees at Papa John's Pizza and the officers involved in this incident all believed this to be an actual firearm," the Parma Heights Police Department said in a news release.
