CLEVELAND – The FOX 8 I TEAM has learned of a carjacking in the same Cleveland shopping center parking lot where an investigator was recently held up at gunpoint.

The incidents occurred in a parking lot shared by Target and Giant Eagle along West 117th.

The latest case happened Friday afternoon. A woman says she was walking into Target when 3 people came up around her. One showed a gun and demanded she throw her purse, phone and keys on the ground. Then the victim says the man told her to run. She went into Target, and the robbers took off with her car.

A police report shows the suspects included 2 men and a woman. One witness said he had watched the 3 suspects roam the parking lot for more than half an hour.

Meantime, the I TEAM has learned police are investigating other recent carjackings on the west side and east side. In one case, a man has been arrested for a parking lot carjacking. And Cleveland First District detectives are trying to identify another suspect seen on security video. Police are wondering how many of the cases may be related. Some of the other attacks also have included female suspects.

We asked will there be added security in that lot on West 117th? Target emailed a statement that said, in part, “At Target, the safety and security of our guests and team members is a top priority.” However, Target said it cannot discuss specifics or security strategy.
