HIRAM, OH – Two Hiram police officers escaped from their patrol car as it became engulfed in flames on Sunday night. The pictures in our photo gallery attest to the extent and heat of the blaze.

Hiram police tell Fox 8 that at about 6:30 p.m., the officers were on their way to help with an incident on Silica Sands Road when their patrol car ran off the road on State Route 82. The car ended up in a culvert on the side of the road and the engine compartment burst into flames. The officers escaped the car just in time, but did suffer some injuries.

Both of them were taken to  University Hospitals in Ravenna. They were treated and released.
