LOS ANGELES – Selena Gomez sat down with Billboard for a one-on-one interview about what her life has been like in the last few months.

She revealed that she was diagnosed with lupus and has been taking care of her health.

“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” Gomez told Billboard. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a******s.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

She took the time off to get better, which also included battling rumors of her gaining weight.

“I was in a bikini and got publicly ripped for being overweight,” Gomez said. “That was the first time I’d experienced body shaming like that. I believed some of the words they were saying. When somebody else has your self-esteem in their hands …”

But Gomez said she is no longer scared of what people might say about her body.

The full interview with Billboard and her cover will be out on Thursday.
