CANTON, Ohio- After days of rumors on social media, officials in the Canton City School District said a bed bug was found in a school building.

A teacher discovered a single bed bug on Tuesday in the natatorium, which is across from McKinely High School, according to communications coordinator Lisa Reicosky.

For several days, there were reports on Twitter and Facebook about bed bugs at McKinely. School officials emphasized the C.T. Branin Natatorium is separate from the high school building.

Reicosky said an exterminator is coming in to inspect the facility and help alleviate concerns. She said the school will be open on Wednesday.

The Centers for Disease Control do not consider bed bugs a medical or public health hazard. The insects are not known to spread disease, but they can be an annoyance.

In Cuyahoga County, bed bugs were confirmed at three Parma schools in two days, even forcing an elementary school to close.
