One dead after semi collides with ambulance in Richland County

RICHLAND COUNTY – The driver of a semi is dead after colliding with a parked ambulance around 11 a.m. in Richland County on Sunday.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, an ambulance was stopped in the left berm of the westbound lanes while responding to a rollover crash on U.S. Route 30 near Laver Road. The ambulance had its emergency lights on.

A semi then struck the rear of the ambulance, swerved across the lanes and drove off into a wooded area. The tractor trailer caught on fire and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two EMTs were transported as a precaution.

Traffic was closed for about 1 hour while the debris was cleaned up.

The crash is still being investigated.
