Suspected drunken driver hits pedestrian in Stark County, troopers say

PIKE TOWNSHIP, Ohio- A 61-year-old man is recovering after he was hit by a suspected drunken driver in Stark County Thursday morning.

It happened at about 7:20 a.m. on state Route 800 near Farber Street in Pike Township, which is about 8 miles south of Canton.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said an 18-year-old driving a Chevrolet Cruze went off the side of the road and hit 61-year-old William B. Mangeris, of East Sparta. The victim was taken to Aultman Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

According to the patrol, the driver suffered minor injuries and is suspected of driving under the influence.

No charges have been filed, but troopers continue to investigate.
