Detective finds heroin inside Akron man shot by SWAT
AKRON, Ohio- An Akron man accused of attacking the mother of his child was shot by the SWAT team before police made another discovery.
The Hookah House was already under investigation for drug sales when Akron police were called there Monday afternoon. The 26-year-old victim told officers the owner, Omar Ali, hit her, choked her and threatened to kill her if she called police.
The woman, who is the mother of Ali’s baby, suffered injuries to her neck.
When officers tried to arrest him, police said Ali refused to open the doors. That’s when the SWAT team was called in.
They broke down the door and ordered Ali to put his hands up, but he refused. Police said he reached for the back of his waistband so one officer shot him in the stomach.
Ali was taken to Akron City Hospital. According to police, a detective found 2.8 grams of heroin and five doses of Suboxone strips hidden in his buttocks while at the hospital. Police also recovered a handgun inside the Hookah House.
Ali, 27, was charged with drug abuse, having a weapon under a disability, domestic violence, domestic violence menacing and assault.
