Cleveland police officer arrested for driving drunk

CLEVELAND- A Cleveland police officer has been arrested and charged with driving drunk.

Records show it happened early Friday morning after an accident with a tow truck at I-90 and West 25.

A police report shows Schmitz had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, and he refused a breathalyzer test.

Officer Steven Schmitz has plead not guilty. The Cleveland Police union president says Schmitz works as a patrolman, but now he’ll go on restricted duty.

Union President Steve Loomis told FOX 8 News, “We have faith in our judicial system.”
