Norton Subway robbery suspect identified by plaid pants in custody

NORTON, Ohio- Police have the man in custody that they say robbed a Subway restaurant at gunpoint on Friday.

A man, wearing tan plaid pants and a hooded-sweatshirt, walked into the Subway on Cleveland Massillon Road in Norton just before noon. Norton police said he pulled out a gun and demanded money, before running out of the store.

After sharing surveillance photos of the suspect, the Barberton Police Department identified the man as 24-year-old Matthew A. Hitchcock. According to police, Barberton officers encountered Hitchcock earlier in the day and he was wearing the same clothes.

Norton police said Norton and Barberton schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Hitchcock was wanted for aggravated robbery.
