Johnny Manziel jogs past fellow quarterbacks Josh McCown and Thad Lewis on May 26, 2015.

BEREA – Johnny Manziel will practice with the starters this week ahead of Sunday’s Browns home-opener against the Tennesee Titans, but that is no guarantee that he starts come game time.

Starting quarterback Josh McCown is still listed in the leagues concussion protocol and can’t practice with the team until at least Friday. McCown suffered his concussion during the first drive of the game against the New York Jets when he tried to dive into the end zone and was sent spinning like a helicopter to the ground.

Head coach Mike Pettine is not ruling out that McCown could still play and start on Sunday. McCown is expected to be on the practice field today taking mental reps with the team, but will not be participating in the actual practice.

As for Manziel, this would be his third career start if McCown is unable to suit up. Manziel in relief last week threw his first career NFL touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin but also committed three turnovers, two fumbles and an interception. Manziel was listed on the Browns pre-practice injury report with an elbow injury. He’s been bothered by the sore elbow since training camp.

No matter who starts Sunday, Mike Pettine says the Browns will be ready. They will face off against the Tennessee Titans at 1:00 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
