ORADELL, New Jersey — A freshman high school player in New Jersey is the top 14-year-old in the country, but he’s facing criticism because of his training.
PIX11 reports that his dad says Josh McKenzie, 14, is being “engineered” to be the perfect athlete.
He has 10 personal trainers and everything he eats is logged.
He also works out to the point of exhaustion.
His story has gone viral after a recently published in-depth profile on the way he’s been training. Many say he’s being pushed too hard at such a young age.
“There’s people all around the country who work harder than me, I think mine is different because I know it’s gone viral,” McKenzie told PIX11.
His family and teammates say he is just a hard worker and dedicated athlete.
