Week 1: Fox 8’s Game of the Week is Chagrin Falls at Kirtland

The 2015 season of ‘Friday Night Touchdown' kicks off on Friday, August 28th at 11:00 p.m.

This past week, we asked fans, students, staff, players, coaches and FOX 8 viewers to vote for the Game of the Week.

The nominees were: AURORA  at  SOLON, BEDFORD  at  BEREA-MIDPARK, CHAGRIN FALLS  at  KIRTLAND or NORDONIA  at  MAYFIELD.

This week's winner was: CHAGRIN FALLS  at  KIRTLAND.

The 55-game home winning streak is on the line for the Kirtland Hornets.

As for this season, a few games kicked off on Thursday night as well. Here's a quick recap of tonight's games.

The Rocky River Pirates hosted rival Fairview. It was the 81st meeting in the long rivalry. This was all Pirates as they prevailed 49-0 for new coach Josh Wells.

Olmsted Falls was on the road at Parma’s Byers Field to take on the Parma Redmen. This opener went two overtimes before the Bulldogs eaked out a 31-28 victory.

The Akron Hoban Knights are loaded with talent and it showed as they thumped the Canton McKinley Bulldogs and new coach Dan Reardon 49-0. The Knights have OSU recruits Danny Clark and Todd Sibley at QB and running back and receiver Jonah Morris who is committed to Michigan State. All three played prominent roles in the lopsided win.

The Massillon Washington Tigers opened their season at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium hosting the Massillon Perry Panthers. The Tigers had a healthy lead but Perry scored 27 unanswered points to get back into it. However, Massillon Washington and new coach Nate Moore got a late touchdown and survived 41-37.

Other games of note, Poland Seminary beat Marlington 31-20 while Columbiana beat Western Reserve of Berline Center 44-37.
