HIGHLAND HILLS - The Police Chief in Highland Hills tells the FOX 8 I-TEAM, a man wanted for escaping Wednesday from a Cleveland jail there has already threatened the same woman he’d been convicted for threatening in the past.

A Highland Hills police report sheds new light on the escape. Officials said earlier Darryl Smith had been last seen in the kitchen. The report says another inmate “opened the kitchen back door to take trays outside and was only gone a few minutes.” “…when he returned Smith was gone…”

Darryl W. Smith had been doing about 6 months in jail, and he also was sentenced to 5 years of probation.

The I-TEAM found as well Smith had written long letters to the court. In part he wrote, “I refuse all your ordered 5 years probation sentence. Period. I will not do that probation.”

Cleveland Police on Thursday reported Smith was last seen on the west side on an old Chevy S10 with an extended cab and likely a stolen license plate.
