Suspect shot, killed by resident during Lorain home invasion

LORAIN, Ohio– Police were called to a Lorain home in the 1900 block of East 40th Street on August 11 to reports of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found that the homeowner had shot a man during an attempted home invasion.

The homeowner told police he was returning home after a trip away and was assaulted near his front door. He said the assault continued inside the home, but he was able to get his gun, which he kept near his door.

He told police he shot the suspect several times in self defense.

Police investigation and witnesses confirmed the story the homeowner told police.

The suspect, Glenn Smith Jr., was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Smith had several items on him indicating that he was going to commit an invasion.

The homeowner has cooperated with police, but charges are not expected to be filed.
