HIGHLAND PARK, Illinois — The story of a mom who says Facebook wouldn’t let her post a photo of herself without make-up is going viral.
Fox 32 reports that Lisa Goodman-Helfand, who is a teacher, suffers from Scleroderma, an autoimmune disorder that causes red splotches and hardening of the skin.
Helfand has a blog, “Comfortable in My Thick Skin,” about her experiences and to spread awareness about the disease. She told Fox 32 that she reached out to another blogger, Chanel White, who also has the disease but suffers from organ failure instead of blotchiness.
“I said hey Chanel, what do you think about us putting our pictures next to each other because you look beautiful and healthy and me, not so much, especially not without make-up on,” Helfand told Fox 32.
Helfand posted that photo and boosted the post. But she then says she received a response that her ad was rejected. It recommended she “avoid focusing on certain body parts as they may draw high negative feedback.”
She wrote another blog entry about the post called “Facebook Doesn’t Like My Face,” and used her photo.
People from around the country have been voicing their support since.
