Hit-skip driver who killed 5-year-old Cleveland boy released from prison

CLEVELAND- The man who pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run crash that killed a 5-year-old boy has been released from prison.

On Oct. 25, 2013, Israel Thornton was walking with his older cousin to catch the bus near West 37th Street and Denison Avenue when he was hit and killed. For nearly a year, his family and police searched for the driver responsible.

Jerome Lee, 25, was indicted in August 2014 for the crash, but prosecutors dropped the vehicular homicide charge. he pleaded to failure to stop after an accident and was sentenced to one year in prison.

On Friday, Lee was released. He was at the Trumbull Correctional Institution from March 10 to July 31, according to the Ohio Department of Corrections.
