Ben Carson, 64, of Baltimore, Ma., is a retired neurosurgeon who became well-known by becoming the first surgeon to successfully separate twins conjoined at the head.
He grew up in Detroit and has degrees from Yale and the University of Michigan. He is emeritus professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, according to his campaign website.
He previously directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for 39 years before retiring.
He married his wife, Candy, in 1975.
