Fox 8's Ed Gallek is back at home less than a week after undergoing brain surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

"I was having a problem on the left side of my face. They found a tumor on the right side, thought it was effecting around the brain. They took an MRI and found it, said we have to get it out, it would make a difference on the left side of the face. And it really has," Ed said.

During the nearly 13-hour operation, surgeons removed a 2-by-2-by-2 benign tumor from his brain. His wife and fellow Fox 8 reporter Peggy Gallek was relieved when the doctors brought good news to the waiting room.

"It was after 11:30, they came in and had big smiles on their faces. I would have waited 20 more hours for that," Peggy told Fox 8's Lou Maglio at the couple's home on Tuesday.

Just hours after Ed was moved to the recovery room, Peggy's phone rang.

"He goes, 'I'm going to be OK.' Those were his first words," Peggy said. "I got up and ran over there."

Ed and Peggy are grateful to family and friends for supporting them during the journey.  It's been a journey of enlightenment. The Galleks have seen so much goodness over the last several weeks. It's been life changing.

"I don't think I was a horrible person before. But it made me a better person," Ed said.
