ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Laura Ruffino made a promise to her best friend Elizabeth Diamond, and now she is making it happen.

Diamond was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in August of 2014 and asked Ruffino to take care of her girls if anything ever happened.

“As she started to weaken you can imagine the fears that I had for the girls and being without her,” Ruffino told WKBW.

In April 2015, Ruffino had to fulfill that promise, doubling the size of her family.

Ruffino and her husband stepped up and took all four of Diamond’s daughters in.

“Ten years ago I didn’t think this would be my life. But if something gets thrown at you just accept the challenge and do the best you can,” Rico, Ruffino’s husband, said.

The family is experiencing plenty of changes, but are trying the best they can to make it all work.

The family had to add a bigger kitchen table and a bigger fridge, both were donated.

There is also a website to help with donations.
