INDEPENDENCE -- Gremlins, Hornets and Rebels are all invading Cleveland this weekend and you can get an up close look at each one of them.

They are rolling out the classic cars this weekend in Independence.

"It should be a fantastic opportunity for people to see cars that just aren't seen anymore," said Dale Veverka, President North Coast AMC.

AMX's, Scramblers, Javelins, the Machine, Hornets, Marlins and Ambassadors are some of the cars you'll see at this weekend's American Motors Owners Association or AMO International Convention.

"This car is a 1970 American Motors AMX it's the last year they built the 2-seater AMX, they built them for 3 years," said Tony Lucas of Vancouver, British Columbia.

The convention runs from Wednesday through Saturday and includes Tech Talks, an AMO Board meeting, a swap meet, some drive-ins to show off the cars, a Marlin Show which celebrates its 50th anniversary and a couple thousand members of AMO from all over the country.

"Really it's not about the cars, it's about the people here, you renew relationships every year," said Robert Hodson of Orlando, FL.

These cars come from all over the country, like California, Minnesota, Manitoba and Pennsylvania all with their own story.

"This is a 1969 Scrambler, they made 1512 of them, this is an A-Scheme," said Edward Fuhrer of Pennsylvania.

When you talk about show stoppers, a pink 1968 AMX car certainly takes the cake, not just for its color, but for its history.

"In 1968, Playboy gave this car to their playmate of the year as her grand prize," said Mark Melvin of Los Angeles, California.

You can see it for yourself right here in Ohio thanks to 2 years of hard work by the North Coast AMC to bring the convention to Northeast Ohio.

The convention runs through Saturday at various locations in Independence. The show kicks off Wednesday night at the Sonic drive-in on Snow Road and Broadview Road.
