Parade, opening ceremony marks week of Soap Box Derby fun in Akron

AKRON, Ohio- Events for the 78th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby were in full swing in Akron on Monday.

Competitors made last-minute adjustments and practice runs before the races start on Tuesday. They also had a chance to enjoy the parade of champions and opening ceremony.

More than 400 children and their families traveled from all over the county, Canada, New Zealand and Japan to participate in this year's derby, which takes place on Saturday.
