CLEVELAND, Ohio -- One of Fox 8's own is facing a health scare, but expects to be back to work in no time.

Fox 8's Ed Gallek and his wife, Fox 8's Peggy Gallek, found out in late June that he has what they believe is a non-cancerous brain tumor.

The discovery started with facial pain, which led to doctors appointments and an MRI.

"So I got the MRI, and (doctors) said, 'well we have a problem', and we have to take care of that problem," said Ed.

Doctors found a two-inch growth behind his ear.

Ed will undergo brain surgery Wednesday, July 22, to remove the growth. The surgery will be long, possibly even up to 12 hours. It will be performed at the Cleveland Clinic.

They say that Ed has been preparing for the surgery -- by working!

"That's what Ed does when he has to prepare for anything big, he just works harder," said Peggy.

"Work keeps your mind off what you have to deal with, but at the same time it's been a lot of soliciting prayers," said Ed.

After the surgery, Ed will be in the hospital for a few days and recover at home. He expects to be back to work sometime in August.

When he returns, he will begin appearing on-air.

"Prayers, please," said Peggy. "We are lucky so many people have been willing to pray with us. We truly are lucky to work at Fox 8 and to have such great support from everyone here, as well as our families."

"Most importantly, I know I'll have God in the operating room with me," said Ed. "Plus, I'm in the hands of a team of top-notch doctors and nurses from one of the premier hospitals in the world."
