AKRON, Ohio - Employees of Summa Health Systems will now be forbidden from having bright colored red or blue hair. Ladies will have to cover their legs, no bare skin. Men will have to have their beards clipped to a half inch in length or less, and everyone is required to wear underwear.

The requirements are part of an updated dress code policy that Summa Health Systems is designed with the best interests and safety of it's patients in mind as well as to ensure the image they portray in the community.

Employees would also be required to have no more than two earrings in each ear, they are forbidden from wearing open-toed shoes, tattoos and body piercings would have to be covered.

Summa operates Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Barberton Hospital, Summa Rehab and Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls in addition to a long list of area health centers and urgent care facilities.

Some employees have voiced concern but in a written statement the area's largest employer says the policy was created "with direct involvement from a number of clinical and non-clinical people from across the organization and also is representative of the feedback that we receive from our patients."

In the statement Summa spokesman Mike Bernstein also says:

"We understand that it might be easy for an individual to analyze a specific part of the policy. However, as the largest employer in Summit County, we review the policy in its entirety and are extremely appreciative of the support we receive from the vast majority of employees across the health system."‚Äč
