YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A judge has chastised three adults as he sentenced them to jail and probation time for the branding of a 17-year-old boy last year.

Mahoning County Judge Lou D’Apolito told the adults that laws protecting children exist because kids don’t always exercise the best judgment.

The Youngstown Vindicator reports the judge said in this case it was the three adults who acted like children.

The judge sentenced the two men and one woman to punishments ranging from a year of probation and a 30-day suspended jail sentence to nine months in jail and three years probation.

The three were charged with heating the lid of a snuff can and also using martial-arts darts to brand the teen on his buttocks in Struthers in suburban Youngstown.

WKBN was there when three of the suspects, including a sheriff’s office employee, pleaded guilty in April. Watch below.
